Their item 61256.
Plenty of past talk on the economics of this item. It lists for $500, is on sale now for $400, and I just got an email coupon for $300.
I may grab one for the shelf for now...

There have been a couple people who have gotten them. They work fine, but it has become common practice here to check tightness on all bolts.

I had the 10 K winch for years. Used it pretty regularly and found it to be reliable - slow but reliable.
I did implode it once on a really hard pull. Should of pulled out a couple of blocks and set up different.
Called Harbor Freight and they shipped a new motor for $100. The motor had a small chip when it arrived. Called HB to complain and they shipped another motor for free. Still using the chipped motor.

FYI, there is always a $300 coupon for the 12k Winch at HF. If anyone ever needs one let me know. I can't remember the last time they didn't include the coupon either online or via the standard mail for the month. Best bang for the buck if you ask me.

Good to know. I get so many emails I don't always look. Would rather wait a little before getting one.

I picked mine up for that same price about a year ago - it's regularly available for that sale price during most of their big sale events, like Black Friday for example.

Not trolling, but am I the only one that thinks its kinda crazy buying something from Harbor Freight that you may have to stake your life on? IMHO, recovery gear isn't something you usually want to cheap out on. I've only had to use my XD maybe a dozen and a half times in the last 15 years, but the couple times I've REALLY needed it, wasn't anytime when I could live with it failing.

Quote from some research on this subject: so, went with my pop yesterday after my HF mailer arrived with the 299.00 coupon. He wanted a winch for his trailer (we do lawn care and a broken zero turn is almost impossible to get back on a trailer) that could pull a 1500 pound mower onto it. 12,000 HF should have been overkill. So we go get it, mount it, test it, it works. Test it to drag the mower on the trailer, made it !4 feet and died, Really? A 1500 pound mower onto a landscape trailer. Sad. I'm sure we got a bad one, like the 4x4 magazines whose winch didn't even work out of the box. Needless to say it went back. There is my experience with it. __________________________________________________________
YMMV I personally wouldn't place too much faith in a discount winch...

I always get hammered here for saying it, but buy a quality winch. Can you imagine buried to the frame with that chunk of iron?
