Testing the waters for a potential group buy. As some of you know I travel extensively for work in Asia. Primarily: Japan, So Korea, China (lived there a few years back) Taiwan and Thailand. I have some very good connections in So. Korea and he is willing to help with the logistics of a order for some engines. Personally I am looking at 1, however this is way lower than the minimum order quantity. These will be coming directly from Hyundai and are the D4BF 2.5L diesel. Replacement for the Mitsubishi 4D56T. Non intercooled, They will include starter, alternator, flywheel and clutch. All brand new. Timing will be arrival in USA April/May 2015.
I'm trying to get an idea if there is any interest, and therefore if I should continue to pursue this idea.
Rough cost $4k each landed in USA.

I hate to bash my own... But mitsu people are cheap and will complain about anything.
For example, one guy on here was in Japan and grabbed some custom 5.86 gears. He posted saying he doesn't see any potential in selling them. Guys bashed him saying that there's plenty of a market. He realized something like he needed high pinion, not low and posted them for sale. I think he finally sold them significantly bellow cost.
If this was my fellow mustang crew and you had ten brand new 4.6 or 5.4 dohc motors to sell, they would go faster than one 4d56t.
Are g54bt injectors still available in Asia? Never mind, people would still be losers about even that
88 Montero, StarQuest turbo, Kormex 5speed +tuff-pan w/phoenix f. stage2 clutch, 4in lift+33' tires, 4.875 lsd, short-throw shifter, Aisin hubs, SR big brakes, gen2 uca's, elantra alt, and so much more... 16g turbo w/hardpipes + 4.90 locking disk-brake axle soon (maybe lsd or aussie front??)

I can't agree more, remember I did hubs and Tuffpans for a while... But a few could be possible. I was thinking that if I could pick-up 2 or 3 I'd front the cash myself and hold the 1 or 2 "extras" until sold. However the MOQ is 6 - 5 extras isn't my plan.

Yep, it is definitely a different community. What every other enthusiast community spends on there rigs must average 20X this one. I think its because there are less "hardcore" enthusiasts here, and more just folks that like the Montero and cheap off-road ride to play around with. Had Mitsubishi done a better job originally...who knows what the community would be today. Regardless, its a fun community, just one that is a bunch of cheapscapes That being said 4K for a BRAND NEW engine, not bad. I have a 3.5 low mileage coming, but if I had an opportunity at a new engine that would last 150K+? Thats awesome I hope some take advantage of a once in a lifetime deal.

It's not just here, it's a lot of mitsu. The Starion community is way too enthusiastic. They all have 3 ratty cars that are never finished rather than work on one and get it nice. Those mofos will literally cry a river when a car gets junked. As soon as anyone posts a car for part out everyone gangs up and guilt trips the seller for not trying to save it first. Then a week later the same guys offer $50 for a transmission and then demand it to be shipped cross country. That crap isnt tolerated on the mustang forums.
I know you were selling tuff pans. If I remember correctly, didn't someone complain about one of your pans not being red enough? Guy said he was disappointed by the finish. Last I checked it's going under a car with 2inches ground clearance. Was he planning on wowing the guy at huffy lube, as no ones going to see the thing.

Had Mitsubishi done a better job originally...who knows what the community would be today. You mean if Mitsubishi HADN'T done as good of a job in the first place? If Mitsu had built Monteros to Jeep levels of engineering and quality then there would be far more aftermarket parts available because you wouldn't be able to do any serious 4-wheeling without breaking something. Montero owners are accustomed to being able to drive their vehicles for tens of thousands of miles with little or no repair cost beyond maintenance. Jeep owners are familiar with having to regularly spend money on their vehicles just to keep them running. It IS a different type of person that drives a Montero, but I think it's directly related to the quality of the vehicle itself.
