So now that my 2.6L is dead, I'm thinking I want to get the 2.4L. I'm not finding much in my area right now, but was wondering if anyone can tell me if I should look for a specific year\make\model or if there were years to avoid.

not really interested in another 2.6, even if it is turbo, but thanks for the tip.

I *think* some of those later pickups, even in RWD configuration, used the narrow block, but I'm not entirely sure.

Point is, I guess, that you need to measure to be sure.

All RWD 2.4s are wideblock, the early ones are 6 bolt cranks and the later ones are 7 bolt so you need to buy the flexplate and bushings from a 2.4 powered Pajero (about $260)

8v 2.4 is the simple way to go and the 2.4 out of the early montero sport is the more powerfull option but it is an interference engine.

By the way i've got the Turbo 2.6 in my '78 Lancer so nobody has a turbo 2.6 kicking around down here <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I must have remembered (6-bolt vs 7-bolt).

Great swap ...I have done a few ...I think I did the first 2.4 swap I'm sure ...

You can have a narrow block 2.4 in the early trucks with a auto trans ... I dont care what the books say ...

I have not really messed with the 7 bolt motors ... They have motor power ...
