I've got both swaps, in my driveway. Neither one runs, but that's my problem.

I have been reading that site and others but can't seem to find the info I'm looking for. I'm trying to find a good balance between HP and MPG. Since I drive over 50miles per day for work, I need to get the MPG, but I also struggle on the hills with the 2.6 setup, so I'm wanting more power. If I look at taking a straight up 2.4L swap, do people notice a decent difference? I found a MS 2.4L, but that is the 7bolt. I think I understand that I would also need the flex plate, but what about the torque converter? will it bolt up to my AT? In my mind, I think I'm looking for something in the 150hp range, but I just don't know. I know turbo would be fun, but not sure if I need it. I'm just looking for the most cost effective swap that is not a 2.6L

and I'm still trying to understand the JDM thing. I see a JDM MS 2.4L but don't know if I should even consider it unless I get the matching harness and computer. thoughts?

Get the Sport 2.4 with wiring and flexplate/spacers, from there it bolts like any 2.6.
If you need the flexplate and spacers order them for a Pajero 2.4 7 bolt

Ok. For the spacers, what are they for? what are they spacing out? Also, for the exhaust, will my manifold bolt up or do I need to get that too? are there any other accessories I should pull from the MS vs using the one from the Raider? Thanks

Also, for the exhaust, will my manifold bolt up or do I need to get that too? are there any other accessories I should pull from the MS vs using the one from the Raider? Thanks The spacer goes between the flywheel and the crank, it spaces the flywheel out to where it properly sits, see the manufacture of the transmissions was not the same manufacture as the engines, since the trans was used in many things, it was up to the engine to 'properly align itself' so thus came shims, spacers, bushings, etc etc. There's a 1/2" thick spacer between the crank and the flywheel, then a large flat washer with 6 or 7 bolt holes in it, this gets stuff aligned. exhaust manifolds are different i think, i would just yank the whole engine, engine harness and ECU.

From what I can tell, the MS with 2.4L only came in a Manual Trans. So it looks like I will have to purchase the Flex Plate and spacer for the Pajero. Where did you get them from? doing a search for the MB numbers, I don't see any pics. can I assume that MB936621 is the flexplate? and MB936623 is the spacer. Do I need the adapter as well(MB936624)? I found the above numbers on Discount Mitsu Parts.com Also, the leads I thought I had on a MS engine were false advertising. There is a JDM version shipping over, but it wont be here until mid January and they want $1100 (no harness). On car-part, I see some are available, but they are over 500 miles away, so I would have to figure out shipping. with shipping, I'm guessing it would also be close to $1100. Is the JDM worth waiting for? Any downside to them? Thanks for the help.

Beware of JDM motors ... As one who has dealed with them ...Subaru and Mitsu more often then not all the parts parts on the out side of the motor are not the same as USDM motors ... Is what you get is a long block with a mess of parts you cant use... Great for someone that is replacing a motor on there reg ... Not good for someone doing a swap ... Not saying a MS 2.4 JDM is that way ..I have no clue never dealed with 'that' motor ... Do your home work .. At $1100 out west here Montys of all Gen's are every where and for a 1K more you could drive one home and get a big chunk of cash back on the parts left over ...
Has anyone ever got someone from car-parts.com to ever email back on a part ..I never have ... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />...
