Can't be sure on the 03 but the gen 2's were all screwed into place from above into nutserts in the roof. The screw all had a piece of plastic covering them.

I was told they're like this because the racks are installed here in the US rather than at the factory.

That said, maybe check the construction of your rack and see if there are any panels in it that may hide the screws.
