The supply line is considerably larger than the return line. I've never had a problem with collapsing hoses, but it's worth a look. It was also suggested to me to try leaving the gas cap off in the chance that it is not venting. Wouldn't that be a nice, easy fix?

long shot, but any chance you got a bad fuel pump? just went through this on one of my outboards that overheated. replaced the thermostat with oem. continued to overheat. tore down the powerhead looking for a blockage. nada. yup - bad thermostat. 18 hours to find the $17 part was bad right out of the box.

Nope. Pump works just fine, when its pumping fuel, that is. When there are air bubbles in the incoming line, there's another issue.

I should have caught on to this earlier. The other new fuel pump wouldn't prime by itself, so Jorge got another new one while I tried to get fuel to the end of the line with my Mighty Vac and kept losing vacuum. I basically ignored it once the truck started.

Have you tried the distributer pickup and or coil?

Second might be the float is sinking.

When the float sinks, it should start and run like crap after it dies. Just getting too much fuel, and you can see it when you look down the throat.

I could definitely smell the gas coming from the exhaust before I turned it counter clock-wise though. After I did turn it, it cleaned it up quite a bit.

And I think I've got a fuel issue too, but I've got a different symptom, so I'll be looking at the same stuff JohnnyB.

Did you find signs of vapor lock or collapsing supply line?

If not maybe test the Feedback and Slow cut solenoid valves (think you may have said you tested the slow cut)
If you find they test good how easy is it to get a working ecu that you can try? You may want to eliminate possible float problems first if you need to buy the ecu.

Yesterday I replaced the soft lines from the front of the hard line to the fuel pump and replaced the clamps. Still getting air in the line as seen through the fuel filter. Next up, I will pressurize the hard line to check it for leaks. If that checks out O.K., I'll replace the pick-up assembly with a spare after I clean it up.

It's not vapor locking. The soft lines are not collapsing. I have replacement solenoids, so I can swap those in to check them.

Spent some time after dark organizing parts that were stored out front by getting them under cover and back behind the fence, and just in time, as I woke up to rain this morning.

The saga continues. Happy New Year to all.

pressurize the tank itself too... Maybe it's got an air leak?

Wouldn't matter if the tank had an air leak. The air wouldn't make it into the gas. In fact, the tank has to have reverse air flow through the cap or the fuel would eventually not flow, thus the suggestion to remove the gas cap, which I tried and it made no difference.
