The site is at Teir 1 connectivity so infrastructure and bandwidth are not the issue. The forums is a part of the overall 4x4wire site. It is the last part to undergo any upgrade due to a number of reasons.

The underlying software is at end of life cycle for support. It is also probably the most stable forums software available.

It has been looked at to upgrade (there is a major version update available) or move to a platform with more features. Either action requires serious time commitment on my part, time that is not available.

The hack last summer upset plans. And economic realities have also contributed to delays.

On the portal side of 4x4Wire, I have set up a structure where you have a full BLOG and another that is geared towards a "discussion/question-answer" format. I have toyed with moving a lot of the FAQs now as stickies on the forum into that format to bring them forward.

Overall, I understand the irritant of the pop-up ads, especially with tablets and smartphones. Site upgrade plans are delayed, not scrapped.

Yes I completely agree. This community and its collective knowledge is invaluable. Is it just me, or is anyone else also missing fasteddy?

I just keep working on my rig doing little things here and there so I document it and write it up on the forum. Also, I recently recovered my computers hard drive from 2004 and found all of my old photos from my raider. I would love to add the missing photos I have back into the archived articles. I wonder if John Stewart would grant me some kind of special temporary permissions so I could do that.

We did have a fairly active photo gallery section which was causality of a system security update that killed some script support.

I have all the photos and have been experimenting with some php display components to set up a new photo gallery featuring the way wheeling used to be.

Blending it as a component under the Joomla portal is VERY labor intensive.

Its probably worth asking for some donations and knowledgeable volunteers and see if it can be put together.

One of the little pop ups tried to give me a virus today as well, those things are sinister. On a tablet they "hide" until you attempt at tapping a link and then pop up right where you are trying to go whisking you away to their site.
Usually just a nuisance but today virus scanner detected a virus on their site.

Just in the last 5 minutes or so on the site my ad blocker has blocked 6 tracking popups, it works well.
