So many a few years ago I cranked my torsion bars and did an add-a-leaf. I also have an issue in 4x4 where when I turn I feel like something is binding. I just replaced the CV axles as both were torn, and the problem still persists.

I'm guessing it comes from too much lift and is the axles? (I'll put it on a lift and verify next week) If so, only solution is to lower it back down a bit? I also read lowering the diff helps for Toyota guys?

I ran into a strange issue recently where the UCA bolt came loose and when turning, the front end would move enough where the steering would bind with something. I then also noticed that my shocks were shot and at times, would slip off the bushing and get in the way of the steering. It was hard to find because it would only happen turning and almost always returned to the proper position when I stopped, so it was not obvious. Well, not obvious to me at least.

I've recently replaced almost everything with gen2 stuff up front, new. I'll get it up on a lift this week and check it all oout. However it only happens in 4x4. In rwd the truck is perfect, hence thinking it's axles, front u joints, or transfer case.

Body Damage is Cool
Kinda sounds like the front diff is locked. If I leave the hubs engaged in 2WD, my welded front axle does pretty much what you are describing.

Well I just recently regeared to 4.875s up front and when I tore it all apart everything seemed normal, granted I don't really know what I'm looking at. Its just too cold to throw it up on Jack stands and assess.

Do you have 4.875 in the back?

I'm curious of the binding you are feeling when turning is the one all GEN'1 have because the transfer case locks the front and rear diffs together?

With the center locked:

When you go around a corner the front wheels take a shorter path. Since GEN's lack a center diff, the tires have to slip to account for the difference in distance traveled (front wheels to back wheels). It also puts a fair amount of load on the drive train and on pavement it will feel pretty herky jerky / bound up.

Curious if thats what you were feeling.

While I would think swapping 4.875 in the front AND rear would seam obvious, I agree it's the internet filled with idiots, so got to cover all bases.

I doubt its the lack of transfer case diff as I've had this car for 8 years and it didn't do this for quite a big portion of that.

I a while back had it parked for 6months. Then I regained interest and did a ton of mods, including a torsion crank. Its that first test drive after mods and sitting that it all began. I figured it's the axles, and since I have to change them I might as well 4.875 it, and boom, still same problem.

I'll Jack it up and dig in next week.

Sorry Manual hubs I assume? Autos always fail and cause this type of problem. Just assumed this far along you have manuals?
