Jim, I'm not really sure how to take your reply here. I can't really tell if your kidding, or being sarcastic or if you actually found it funny. Regardless, it's fine. I'm not offended or anything ...

None was intended. But the headlight washer pump is sort of holy grail part. To find one NOS... it's impossible. granted I haven't tried in the last 5 years or so, because in the 10 years prior to that it was impossible.

I went so far as to try and track down the original supplier (Koyo) and sent multiple requests to see if a small batch run could be made or inquire if tolling was still available. My queries always went unanswered.

Board members have always resorted to rebuilding their pumps as aftermarket pumps never seemed to fit size-wise or even by pumping volume. You can find some old old ...old.. threads here by searching really really deep in archives. We're talking WAY back.

I applaud your efforts as they match my own.. just take for example my own quest to find the right tools to replace my rear trailing arm bushings.

No offense was intended, I did find it a little funny that someone was trying to find a part that was rarer than hens teeth, a situation that I thought was fairly common knowledge to old timers such as you and I.

On a slightly more positive note, I do have multiple spare parts for the headlight washer system available from the odd size hoses to the reservoir, nozzles, nozzle clips and T-valve. And yes I even have a few washer pump motors (3 or 4 at last check) But they all need to be tested and/or rebuilt.

Please do let us know what your search for a new OEM unit reveals. I don't think anyone on this forum has bothered to try getting one in several years.

Washer Pump? <LINK!

Many time I have ordered parts, only to have time pass by before the order is cancelled due to non-availability. Is this also the case here? Just thought I'd throw out the part number.

I just threw that part number up there to show how the numbers may still be floating around, but the part probably isn't available, at least from what everyone is saying.

The headlight washer pump is a special part; it's not like the windshield washer pump, in that it's a relatively low-pressure/high volume pump as opposed to the windshield unit's higher pressure and lower volume. It's certainly worth following Jay's rebuild tips to keep it running.

I'm really looking forward to the additions to the book. In particular, I want to see the new interior body panel fasteners at work, they look fascinating. Keep up the good work, Jay!

Nice!!! I was just out in the garage jackin with the Raider and was actually looking at my headlight washer pump thinking I need to order a new one, I tried to rebuild one on my old one but it was all shot inside, Im gonna give it a try again tomorrow and see if I can get it apart. Thanks Good Job MM

I had a hard time finding a useable gen 1 pump, all the ones I found at the yard where too far gone, the impellers get brittle after sitting for too long. I ended up swapping connectors on a gen 2 pump. I have a few good yards in my area and a few parts here at home if you want to try rebuilding yours. I'm guessing you know there is a archived thread on repairing the pump on the forum. Let me know if you need something:)

You can find that thread fully documented with the missing photos in my book. Download the PDF in the link I posted the other day.

Wow, I just added all of my missing threads to my book. It suddenly went from 125 pages to 466. I just printed a copy for JohnnyB earlier today while I was in the San Francisco office. There wasn't enough room in my back pack, I had to put it in my luggage.
