The 2001 Montero should have a 3.5 SOHC engine as used in 97-02 models. If you are referring to a 3.0 Sport then I believe the OBD2 setup would require you to use some of the sensors from the 95, otherwise I would imagine the bell housing is the same. Did you ask Google yet??
