The light seems to be coming on more frequently over a month or two. It's been hard to start a couple of times when cold.
From looking at the owners' manual and shop manual I'm guessing EGR valve. The manual says to clean it in appropriate solvent. Does this mean carb cleaner? Any tips?

Look at the MASS and plug ..How does the truck idle when lights on ?..Open EGR at idle will make a (most) vehicle idle bad ...

Pulled a code?
I've always found I need manual cleaning as well as solvent (brake fluid) to clean EGR properly. Wire brush, scrapper etc.

Is what we need to do is set up info on what sets the CEL light and what does 'not' set the CEL...

The owners' manual says the CEL reflects only an emissions problem. I'll check the shop manual again - couldn't find CEL on a fast go through.

The owners' manual says the CEL reflects only an emissions problem. Yes, OBDI & II are there for emissions, but also show improper air/fuel ratio. O2 sensor is to keep CAT healthy and emissions low. Fuel trims keep mixture to 14.7:1. The code sets for an extreme condition that sensors can't compensate for to keep CAT operating.
