This was brought up before, but didn't garner much interest. But from what I can see the 01-06 sorrento, used the mitsu 6g74 DOHC mounted frontwards (not sideways) just like the Montero. The upper intake looks identical was well, not sure if all the vacuum nipples are the same but no doubt that this is the same engine in our 94-96 SR's and should be mined for newer parts at the yards accordingly. google the sorrento 3.5 engine and you guys with the cammer engines will see what I mean.

2006 sorrento:

Wow, I would have loved to have looked into that before I got my current replacement engine. I bet there are some solid improvements since our years.

192HP OUCH! Sounds like they went BACKWARDS like everything. I bet the Montero would barely move with that engine.

192HP, due to ECU de-tune to run regular octane gas, most likely(retarded timeing). But some things warrant more investigation. Same cams? Unknown... Lower CR pistons? Thats a possibly. wont know untill we look into this further. but it would be great if we could get long blocks ont of wrecked vehicles from 06..We might have just gained 10 years.

Still think its a backwards move from 225hp, but I wonder what the power band looks like as well? I guess its all relative the 92-93 Montero with 156HP was like driving a tank stuck in concrete <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Not really a move back for what we would be using it for. this engine with the Montero upper intake and ECU would put out the 215HP same as Montero. Bore and stroke appear to be the same. need to compare compression ratio, etc.

Remember the mitsu DOHC ecu is tuned for premium 91 octane, while the Kia is detuned for 87 octane.

Need to find out if the detune is stricly ECU or not. If its the ECU only, easy money. If its ecu and cams, still easy. If pistons, not so much.

Interesting. Would be great to have options since rebuilds never seem to work out.

Please stop saying the 3.5 'can't' be reman and stop the rumors ... Its BS and your wrong....

I did a part number look and 'nothing' crosses over to a SR from this motor ... Not even the crank ... The crank list the Monty sport ,,,Monty ,,, and cars... But thats it ...???????

Not trying to be a horses a$$ just want facts ...

Have a good day
