Interesting. Would be great to have options since rebuilds never seem to work out.

Please stop saying the 3.5 'can't' be reman and stop the rumors ... Its BS and your wrong....

I did a part number look and 'nothing' crosses over to a SR from this motor ... Not even the crank ... The crank list the Monty sport ,,,Monty ,,, and cars... But thats it ...???????

Not trying to be a horses a$$ just want facts ...

Have a good day

I seen one site where the the head kit to include the valves was a cross over. also same head bolts..that still leaves a lot of variables though.

Pics to compare. I could not find any visible differences EDIT scratch that..after further review, heads appear identical. Block very similar but water pump inlet and outlet closer together. timing belt tensioner looks the same but mounted at a more upward angle. timing belt pulleys both look identical. oil pump pick up on other side so oil pump not same.

In short. Same heads but small differences in block.

bottom line, its probably a good source for used heads and lower and middle intake (dreaded butterflies). worth further looking into.

The kia guy that came in here originally stating this was laughed out of here. But I think he was mostly right. Same heads and the block is very close.

BTW when looking at even newer engines the butterfly's make re-appearances and fail in the same manner, as late as the last few years. So you always have to watch out for those on Mits motors as well.

03 Sorrento. Owner wasn't there, talked to my contact, we'll see what I can get the longblock for. Hopefully the engine is bad.

Need a Spot
When comparing the engine pics on engineguy.com to other Mitsubishi 3.5l the differences in the Kia engine block are similar to the newer SOHC 3.5l blocks. The angle of the timing belt tensioner appears to be the same to the tensioner angle in my 2000 3.5. Also the oil filter is on the same side as the 2000 3.5 block.

It very well could be the Kia/Hyundai DOHC 3.5l has the same heads and intake as the 94-96 Mitsu DOHC 3.5l and the Kia block is the same as the 97-00 Mitsu SOHC 3.5l.

That is making me feel better. The idea of spending $400-$500 on something I can't use has bothered me. The idea that I can freshen up my 94 SR 3.5 engine with some newer parts is appealing. But still a crap shoot.
