I've gradually been moving away from the Monteros, as I've sure my readers have noticed. About 2 years ago, I was innocently driving back to the office after having one of the office cars washed. I found a Dodge lurking behind some bushes and time traveled back to 1998, when my 1977 Dodge 1-ton was stolen. I'd stumbled on a younger brother or sister to that truck. I immediately left my number on the closed gate and hoped for the best. Google Earth research later indicated the truck had not moved from the general yard area for about 7 years prior.

I susbsequently had lots of face time with the yard owner who claimed to 'see' the truck owner in traffic now and then, but could not establish contact. Finally, with cash looming, the yard owner lien saled the truck and accepted my offer.

The truck is the last of the Lifestyle-era Dodge Power Wagons and is a very basic work truck: crank windows, vinyl flooring, no AC, 360-4V, NP-435 4-speed trans, NP-205 transfer case, 4.88 geared Dana 60 and 70 axles, and an aftermarket Gear Vendors overdrive.

Now, just have to decide what to do with my new ride.

Flat bed???? Nice find. Worked on a farm during summer while in high school. One of the farm trucks was a 60 or 61 Dodge Power Wagon. That was my first experience with 4x4.

nice find!
looks like a maintained workhorse, not something "abandoned" for 7yrs.
does it run as good as it looks?

The truck is in fairly good condition. It starts and drives up & down the driveway, but does not stop, one of the items to fix. Owner of the yard used this truck as a part of his yard gate-lock system.

I spent some of my free Springtime wrenching a bit with my new Eleanor.

First thing was first, lose the bent bumper and hang the winch:

Second, remove the yucky rack and reveal the beautiful Dodge below:

Since May, I have acquired some Thorley headers, a set of Superlift 6" lift springs, a 55-gallon fuel tank, and conversion parts to install bucket seats and console from a Ramcharger.

Glamorously posed Ramcharger and W400:

Apparently some bugs remain in the new issue of 4x4Wire.

Aside from work work, I have been toying with my turbo Mighty Max. I made an acquaintance via Facebook, Noah Zimmerman, and he hooked me up with an L200 Savanah grille with round lights...so much more pretty than rectangular to me.

There is some clearancing to perform along the headlight bucket area. My chassis predates use of this lamp system by about 8 years. Anyway, the lights are similar to my CibiÚ lights, using the H4 bulb in the primary lamps, and H1 bulbs in the little spots.

After completion, as Noah's other customer performed before me:
