By far, your biggest limitation to flex is the sway bars - removing them for 4 wheeling makes a night and day difference. I occasionally tow a trailer with mine as well, and don't feel safe having the swaybars removed for that. With an air ratchet, I can remove my front sway bar in about 5 minutes for a wheeling trip. The rear takes about 30 minutes to remove due to having to remove a wheel and a shock to get the sway bar out.

I think for now, while figuring this will:
- consider flipping ball joints
Don't flip them. Can't remember why. I only recall asking about doing mine after reading an older thread about flipping them. There was a definite "no" from current (at the time) forum members who found it was a really bad idea. I'm sure the thread is out there with a little searching. HTH

Thanks Mongo and KF6ZPL!
I ran my ball joints flipped for around 3 years on my last Monty without much of an issue. Did not experience any bents parts but did seem to wear out front tires.... but my driving style is easy on the skinny pedal.
Going to pull the front swaybar this week and see what happens with the travel considering the heavy duty torsion bars are still in place.
Running the McGrew Trail in Southern Oregon weekend after next. Will be on the trail for about 3 days and thinking about pulling the rear swaybar once on the trail.
Would I need spring keepers in place to this?
Thanks, ~ Jon

I removed my rear sway bar on my '95 years ago and haven't missed it. I've pulled trailers large enough to appreciate trailer brakes, which I'm wired for (but I borrowed a brake controller and don't have one in there now) without issue.
Now, the front sway bar, I leave on these days. While it does help to remove it off road, I just can't stand driving even on freeway ramps without it. My truck just leans too much for my comfort. I think I tried having it off for about a month and I just hated it. I'll live with what I get as a result off-road.

John B. But with the minimal travel of the front end, does it really matter. My goal is to do the Toasty rear and run locked front and rear and be good.

Yeah, i'd run a front sway bar and let the rear do the work.

Quick update:
I pulled the front sway bar for now but did not flip the ball joints.
Ended up having to cut the driver side off, since the bushing just would not come off. Have what's left on the truck soaking in rust remover. Hopefully, it'll come off eventually.
The stance seems different without the sway bar. It looks like the sway bar was holding down the front of the truck.
Running the McGrew trail for 4 days this weekend. Will see what the difference is.

Call me crazy but I always liked lifting front wheels...
Anyone have specs on the stock travel of a gen2 front and rear, just out of curiosity? I've looked before, but can't seem to come up with any factory numbers. Maybe the factory thought it was so little in the front that they didn't both to publish it? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
