I'm looking for some help with a 3rd gen axle rebuild, Does anyone know how to correctly remove the 3'rd gen rear axle ABS ring? We pulled the half shafts out and and found this ABS ring (looks like a sprocket) just behind the bearing. It appears to be pressed on....but, I'm not sure. We went to a machine shop and the guy there said it needs to be cut off. I'm not buying that....and I hate the idea of using an angle grinder on a machined surface. Any idea?

I was told by a Toyota service shop (not a dealer) that they prefer to replace those rear ABS rings with a new part because they typically get damaged after trying to remove them with a press. Otherwise, I also heard them say they like to cut them off instead of trying to save them and press them off. I had my rear ABS rings removed during an axle rebuild process and they definitely looked beaten up afterward. I chose to buy new ABS rings after seeing that.
