Need a Spot
I'm near Combs and Ironwood in Pecan Creek South.

I think I'm going to look for a used tow dolly and use the Montero as a glorified trailor behind my ML500 for the long drive up north.

I'll need to disconnect something though, driveshaft? It's an auto trans.

I'd drain the transfer case of its gear lube and remove the rear driveshaft. Some people will say to disconnect the rear of the driveshaft, leave it plugged into the transfer case and tie it up out of the way so you don't have to drain the transfer case. Either way works but you can't have the shaft turn with the engine off or bad things will happen to your transmission.

Pull the drive shaft and plug the rear output. I may have a spare yoke you can plug the tailshaft with.

The transfer case probably needs a fluid change anyway. Just drain it and remove the driveshaft, throw it in the back, load it up and go. What could be more simple?

if you go that route i highly suggest traveling with the needed amount of transfer case lube on hand, just as a precaution. if something happened and you needed to unhook the montero and drive to town for parts/help/etc you'd be stuck without the oil <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Personally, I'd jack up the rear end, remove the driveshaft, put a few zip lock bags or something over the transfer case output, zip tie the [censored] out of it and haul it like that. That way making the truck mobile again will only require 4 bolts.

I might be down in San Tan this thursday, i'll let you know around what time once i figure it out and if things jive, i'll stop by.
