Several years ago there was a flurry of enthusiasm about using air-water intercooling for a Gen I turbo. Today I have searched the forum and found nothing, which suggests this idea didn't catch on, and died over five years ago, since that is as far back as the search function will allow. At the time it sounded like it offered real benefits - more reliable cooling, better use of limited space, less vulnerability for the intercooler, etc.

Can you point me to posts on this?

I have a 1986 Ram-50 truck that I'm finally getting to - maybe to rebuild with a turbo engine . . .

Hello to Fasteddy, FrankR, Rxinhed and others whose friendship and deep knowledge I have greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob Wilson

I assume you are not referring to the actual turbo ( water cooled housing) and to an aftercooler used to reduce the charge temperature?

Basicly and air to water "intercooler".

That's right. This would be an air-to-water rather than air-to-air intercooler.
Based on your question I have modified the original post so that it might be less confusing.

Body Damage is Cool
There aren't many factory air-to-water intercooler applications that I can think of - GMC Syclone/Typhoon and the GM LSA engine found in the Corvette and CTS-V are about it. I'm not sure what advantage it would have over an air-to-air intercooler that would offset the comparative lack of aftermarket parts and knowledge to put a functional system together.

Just rig a spray mister to shoot alcohol over your air/air intercooler for those extra few HP's.
