Chicken Tax is a 50 year old tariff on the import of a few seemingly random things in response to France and West Germany placing a tariff on importing chicken from the US.

One of the specific things on the tariff is light trucks and it's ultimately why Mitsu trucks, 2-door imported SUV's in general went away entirely 25 years ago and Toyota builds pickups in California, among other things.

So with the TPP (trans pacific partnership) there's a lot of bickering about it and I'm not even going to dive into that mess, but the part that's important here on 4x4wire.com is that apparently the Chicken Tax is going away. That means if they meet US safety/emissions standards, Mitsu can start selling 2-door Pajeros here if they want, Ford and Chevy can start importing the compact pickups they've been selling outside the US forever if they want, Volkswagen can sell the Amarok, Suzuki could bring in the Jimny if they wanted.. etc <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
