Looking forward to the full DIY post, but I certainly get the idea. I should be receiving the replacement fasteners in the next day or two - I found a Ford part that matches color and dimensions of the original plastic bits. I'll post pictures when they arrive - a bag of 50 was $10. If I'd been willing to paint, black nylon was $5 and white was $3.
