I have a Gen I LWB (1990) that I bought to fix up for my son. I've gotten pretty much all of the mechanicals working now but I'm having issues with the moonroof. Basically the existing one is completely rusted out in the two front corners. The metal framing that holds the glass in place is rusted and separated from the glass on one corner such that it's not re-usable. I assume that the drains got clogged and water sat there for the years that it was sitting on a field.

I've been trying to locate a replacement. I'm not sure if you can even order a new one, but oemmitsubishiparts.com shows $1000+ which is probably almost as much as whole truck is worth. So I've been trying to find one in a junkyard, but there aren't any close by. It looks like they are available from $100 - $200 used. But I'd really like to be able to ascertain the condition prior to ordering it.

Does anyone have any experience in replacing the moonroof glass? It's actually trivial to remove, just eight nuts and then push it out the top. But locating a suitable replacement part is proving difficult. Anyone got a donor glass they'd be willing to part with? Is it possible to ship giant hunks of glass through Fedex, USPS or some other carrier? Not sure how much that might cost.

thanks,
steve
