I would pull off the transmission cooler return line, point it into a drain pan, have someone start the engine, and see if there is fluid being pumped through the cooler. Okay, I found a few minutes tonight to mess around with the Montero. I pulled the transmission line as suggested, put the truck into neutral and ran for about 10 seconds. The photo shows the results. I'm not sure how much flow there should be, but it seems to be moving adequately. That said, I'm not a transmission expert, but this fluid looks pretty bad. Are there any insights to be had into my overheating issue from this?
