Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey guys
I've been having problems when sitting at lights the motor will rev itself to about 2500 rpms, hold there for a bit and then die back down. Sometimes it will do this back to back, sometimes it will only go to 1500. Just today I noticed it was doing it between switching gears occasionally, so when it's in neutral or the clutch is in.. Any ideas on where to start?
