Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanx Dart, yes I have most of everything tagged and bagged.the bolts and valves are all indexed, listed by sides. Im about ready to start resembling. Heads are unwarpped by the blown gasket, used a scotch-bright pad and the deck's look like new.
[Linked Image]
also reground the exhaust valves, and lapped both the intake and exhaust.
[Linked Image]

Half the hydraulic lash adjusters were frozen, soaked all of them in desiel, popped the caps, used a straight pick down the middle and pushed the ballvalve down and got all the old oil out. Wishing Id taken pics of that, my bad, was cool really cool actually.

Picked up a new motorcycle, an 02 shadow. getting rid of the Katana soon. Thats my Monty in the background.

I think Im going to hunt down and KILL the PO... Im guessing he lost the cam cap bolts and just grabbed whatever fit, and this is the result...
[Linked Image]
If you look close you can see the two bolts are different.

not sure if you can tell, but thats the stripped hole, stripped at 14 FtLbs...
[Linked Image]

here we have the aluminum threads and the helacoil that's going in
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
And torqing the other head I found 2 more that stripped, Its my guess that those bolts are stripping the head because the bolt threads dont go all the way down... Id be
Bolting the heads back on this week if it weren't for this. !@#$%%!@#$%^&*()_ Ect.

Wait, wait, wait are the rocker arms under the cams? stripped bolts I feel your pain, I had to fix 4 when doing the top of my 3.0L.

Bolts next to the firewall? LOL the 3.0L also have some bolts that hold the intake plenum on the drive's side that I cannot understand how someone can fit their hand back there and brackets? WOW, I admire Mitsubishi for all the multitude of brackets to hold and mount "stuff".

I love the look of that DOHC 3.5L

Excellent pics.

Reassembly is progressing, headers are back on, the coolant pipe that goes to the back of the heads... that was a B*tch, but its on, new hoses on the back of the engine. It's slow going because I'm both working and spring semester in college has started back up, so between the 15 units and working full time I have one-half day I can usually commit to it... but slow and steady.

Got the crank pully on, got the accessory pulley on, got the AC bracket and AC compressor on, realised Id forgotten to run the crank sensor behind the main accessory bracket... I think Im going to have to backtrack...
Tried to post pics the other day, but it didn't seem to be working.

Well, that might have been a pain, oH, and looking at it I probably could have threaded the sensor wire through. Anyway, plugging in the injectors today, and one set is blue, and one is brown, and the manual doesn't say which was which, fortunately, I took pictures, and in the corner of one pic I could see the connector for one of the pass side injectors, and it was brown, which is opposite of the way I had it setup, so... Ya, small issues, could have been a real pain later. Oh, well there was the usual dropping things down below the lower intake manifold, one injector clip, and two of the plastic isolators... which being plastic, ignored the magnet... lol
