Ok, so you just used a pipe plug for the drain fitting? NWF uses a fitting that uses much smaller hose. Hmmmm. Dang! I was hoping to not have to involve a machine shop this go-around.

Did the Strong Box guys specify ATF or synthetic gear oil? I noticed that NWF says 80-90 full synthetic gear oil. Doesn't seem right to me. I remember talking to Duffy about this but I don't remember what we talked about. He specified the same full synthetic AFT that you normally put in a NP231.

yes , just a normal 1/2"bsp plug with some teflon tape. The aluminium housing is easy to drill & tap.

Jacob said 70w gear oil or atf.

Given that my tranny had atf & the NP242 uses atf AND I was not confident with the internal sealing of the Strong Box as it leaked out of the back seal when I had it set up but not installed , I went for atf all round so if there was any internal leakage of fluid then it wouldnt matter as all 3 components had the same fluid. So far no problems

That's what I was thinking. I seem to remember that was what Duffy and I were talking about and why he recommended ATF. I've never had a leak problem that I know of but that's always been a concern of mine.

I think I'll shoot an email off to NWF and ask what the reasoning for gear lube is in their crawl box. I think if I had a leak between the A/T and crawl box I'd prefer that the crawl box was running ATF rather than gear lube. smile
