Ok so I rebuilt a aw30-40le for a custumer. I put it in and it doesn't shift. If I shift it manually it works just fine. I have taken it apart 3 times and went threw it. Still same problem. The only code I get is output speed sensor. I replaced it still same problem. The transmission range selector doesn't work and neither does the od button. Everything in this thing is new accept the hard parts that were reusable. I am ASE master tech and have done 1000s of transmissions. This thing is beating me up. A buddy of mine who works for mitsu told me to try montero sport forum ed over there told me to come over here. I thought i had the problem figured out with the intermittent power to the speed sensor but nope. If anyone could help me shed some light on this it would be great

Search the forum archives as there is a lot of info about transmission issues. The Mitsu, Toyota and Jeep share the basic AW-4 transmission for a lot of application with a few differences. Not sure of the exact configuration of the range selector. If mechanical, perhaps a broken cable??? If electrical???? And, are there any vacuum ports? Just throwing out some ideas....

Sounds like the pulse gear isn't sending signal, it's kind of a picky sensor.

Finally figured out the problem. Found 3 issues not exactly sure which one was the issue, but I found 2 wires with the same plug 1 white and 1 black. Well my tech had the white to black and black to white. one is for the trans temp and the other is for ATF lvl. Hooked them up to black to black and white to white. Then Recalibrated tps. Now it shifts on its own.
