Its time. I have a 1991 LWB LS. Rust free TX truck. its been in my shop for 5 years now needing a motor. The time is here to build it and put it on the road for my 15 yr old who is getting his learners soon. What it needs. Motor Paint. Re do the tinted windows Nice wheels and bigger tires roof rack bumper fishing pole rack tunes
What to do?
Love a diesel. Which one and where can I get one? Been looking on internet and 4m40 seems way to go but do not seem available. V8? V6 alternative V6 Mitsu? 6G72 stock or 6G75? IE re-manufactured 6G72 or JDM 6G75?
$$$ is not a real issue. Practicality is as is time and tech issues. Ill be paying and supervising my 3rd world Peruvian wrench here in Northern VA near Dulles airport.
Thanks
Scott

While Diesel engines have many advantages, they are scarce in the US due to EPA restriction. They are available in Canada.
For other engine choices, I'm a proponent of sticking with stock or an OEM upgrade.
The 4x4Wire archives do have some info on engine swaps. Use the search block at top of the page.

I'd go with stock so you don't have as much to worry about. The 6G72 is a strong motor, and nothing crazy fast for a new driver. Also, check out the Garage Sale page on facebook for the group Mitsubishi Monteros USA. Their sale page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/1507345922865639/

Search up the tdi swaps that people like to put into tacomas. It won't be fast but it could be done for not to much money.

Only one swap that makes sense, a 4g64 2.4 or 4g64 2.0. There are 2.4's with 2.0 dohc turbo heads out there. one done/doing on here. In your case, I'd build the 3.0 right and call it a day.

Would the 4G64 2.4L mate with the KM145 5-speed trans?

Kinda going backwards. It's low end torque you want for wheeling. If your looking for speed, yank it all out and throw in a LS drivetrain.
