john- thanks for trying to help me w/the pictures.
i still don't get it. makes me feel like a moron, 'cause probably any child these days would have just done it.....
that selectable box you mention has no options, and the "post options" indicate html & ubbcode is disabled.
i'm sure i'm a special case.
or should be.....

Okay.
Problem seems to be solved. There were some permission settings on some forums that disabled the UBB code. Hence, the display you were seeing was correct for the settings; but, wrong for what they should heave been.
You were the lucky person try to post in forums where the incorrect permissions were set.
So, using the below format, you should be able to post images and URLs.....
Using [IMG}xxxxLINKxxx[/IMG] will display the image in the post.
Using the xxxxLINKxxx will provide a clickable link in the post.
