Need a Spot
I have a 1990 Trooper with blown auto trans and a 1989 Trooper with manual trans, both GM V-6 engines. What is involved swapping the auto trans for the manual trans? Good idea or bad?

The biggest issue is getting the clutch linkage moved and working.

Then, consider the overall length of each transmission. You may need to relocate crossmember supports.

And, if the trannys are different lengths, you may need to replace drive shafts.

Overall, as long as the wheelbase is the same between models, it should be a fairly straight forward swap.

The only other hangup would involve ECM inputs.

There has been a lot of discussion in the forums. Use the Site Search block at the top of the page for more information.
