Hey Ray! I think I'll be able to make that trip. It's been waaaayyyyy too long since I've been on the trails.

I'll be sure to drag along Jasean with his Toy and Neal with his Monty.

I didn't get to read all these posts yet... is Smiley going to make this trip? I think he needs to. Heh heh.

hmmm...so is the general consensus that I shouldn't try even the moderate trails in my lwb with 31s? I'm not a novice, but would like to avoid bashing my truck I MAY have sliders in time for that trip, and I'll feel a lot better if I do.

Bring your own water and take a shower before you leave home. They did have one uni-sex port-a-jon at the campground we stayed at last time.

If you do bring a trailer, you may have to leave it parked at the road with the cars. The campground we were at required significant ground clearance to access. The ones closest to the trails looked a little nicer, but they were all full by the time we got there so we ended up staying at one that was 3-4 miles from the trailhead.

You should be fine with only 31's and carefull driving. Plan on needing a tug every now and then as well as having to give one. If you wanted to, you could come to asheville first and I'd be willing to loan you my 33's for the weekend(assuming I can borrow your 31's to get to work that weekend).

if you want a nice campground.. look at crawford's campground. its catered to wheelers. they have primitive and sites with hookups. has a full shop with all tools and welder and whatever, even gas. also has a bath house with showers, toilets, sinks, etc. very nice place. has a rock garden and mud pit to play in if you want also.
its about 5 miles from tellico if i remember correctly. around $7 for primitive per person and $15 if you go hookups.

Man, thanks for the super nice offer...but I'd be afraid I'd tear up one of your tires, and I wouldn't be able to pay you right away...thanks again though.

Paul (phines),
good to hear from you, man ... that would be cool if you and the Blacksburg gang could make it!

wow ... interest is definitely growing ... i plan to camp both Friday and Saturday nights at campground #3 which is north of the trailhead as rodeo_chris has mentioned and has plenty of room for multiple camp sites and many vehicles ... there is camping available at Stateline Campground with room for parking trailers very near the trailhead if you get there in time to reserve space (first come first serve)

stony-man,
you can ride with me Saturday morning and get a feel for the trails before taking your Montero on them if you like ... me, I hit trail 6 with 31s on my first time at Tellico and loved it ... with your LWB (4-door) vehicle the most likely damage would be your rear bumper getting scraped going down Fains Ford creek crossing, but this can be avoided with care
