I know Ryan and JasonB posted some information about Anderson Creek being blocked off, but I didn't realize it was closed off halfway through the trail. After being there this weekend, I found out that about probably 10-15 minutes after the big rock on the trail, that there are a huge number of "No Tresspassing" signs posted all over the trees in one little area. I've seen a few on the sides of the trail before, presumably to keep people from going off into the woods, but this is the first time I have seen these signs.

So we turned back, and went back to the usual area where people stop to eat lunch. It sucked not getting to do it all. I didn't think this was private land back there, but I guess I could be wrong. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Just thought I would let everyone know, so they don't waste their time on Anderson if it's not fully open.

yeah those no tresspassing signs were there when i was there too. we asked numerous other folks that we met on the trail about this and they all said it was just done. everyone was telling us that they were not private property roads until the end. apparently some of the land off the side of the roads is private property (which is what the signs are letting you know according the folks we talked to). i remember when i pulled in the parking lot of the visitor center, i told the ranger that was there that i was just waiting on a few others to go up to the trails and ride. i asked if they were muddy or anything and he said they were fine. never mentioned that we couldn't ride there. i don't know a honest to goodness true answer though.

edit: just called the amicalola office. they told me the trails were closed to motorcycles and atvs now but vehicles are still allowed. she was unclear on all details and is faxing me some stuff. i'll post details later.

ok.. i've a few maps that were faxed to me from the ranger stations.
the lady at amicalol faxed me some info that states anderson creek is no longer accessible via amicalola state park. i don't know why or if there is a gate. i assume it has to be somewhat open in order to get to that church. maybe its blocked off after that now.
i can only somewhat read these maps. i can fax them to anyone but scanning them in will make them illegible. the directions they give for getting there are from 52 but involve some side roads. not sure if those are the ones that get you to that gravel lunch spot. anyway.. that's all i could dig up so far.
if anyone wants these faxes let me know.

pulled this from southern jeeps website:
"Be aware that according to the Forrest Service, the Anderson Creek exit/entrance at the cycle shop (area of conflict with property owner) is indeed PRIVATE PROPERTY if you use that drive (without permission of the property owner) you are technically tresspassing. This information confirms the position of the property owner and explains why he has been so upset. Please do not use the drive without his permission.

Also, sad but true, the Newbicon is indeed no more. It too is private property...

This information is from our meeting with the FS today. More information on Anderson Creek to come shortly."

Is it part of the Anderson Creek trail?

BTW, thanks for getting the information from the FS. I've been checking a lot on Southern Jeeps about this trail and Rich Mountain, and they have a lot of good info over there.

to the right from the big "parking" area after amicalola trail, and before anderson creek.

if you go straight you do anderson creek

if you went sharp left up the hill, you do that trail that loops back around to where you just came from

the gravel smooth road to the right goes down to paved roads

there is another trail to the right b/w andy creek and that gravel road (closer to the gravel road) that is known as the "newbicon". its basically downhill the whole way but is all very tough v-ditces that go all over the place. very deep and tippy for an IFS rig. its a skinny trail getting down to the v-ditch part so expect pinstripping. there is also a real thin ATV trail going down the hill but that's the one i'm talking about. you should be able to find it from that.
