Yeah, I plan to wheel all winter, I want to scout some areas farther south and there's always Paragon. Also, we'll be planning clinics so folks can learn from each other.
Doug, spoken like a true wheeling nut! I've been wondering - how do you get those wasps to make honey?

I have never done U-Joints before, so I would be more comfortable doing it at home. Also, I heard there is possability for Mr. Torch to come out and play, heat up and make things loose, and that would be hard to do on the trail.

Dont waste your time trying to press it you with a vice or any of that other crap.

Unbolt it from the pinion... but first mark a spot on the d-shaft and on the pinion so you can put it back together in the same location.

There will be a c-clip on each u-joint cap. Use a screw driver to pop these off, you wont be reusing them, so give it hell.

When all c-clips are off, get a big friendly hammer, 2lb will work awesome. Dont try to use a claw hammer, or a dead blow.

Lay the shaft down and bang on the pinion flange... right above the cap. Keep hitting it, firmly, but dont hit the acual flange, just the part the u-joint install into. The oposite ujoint cap will being to walk out of the hole. Keep hitting it until you can pull it free.

Now repeat this for all of the caps untill the are all out, at which point you take the old u-joint cross out.

Just be carefull installing the new one, make sure you dont lose any needle bearings, you will screw up the install that way.

I will change your u-joints, we can all work on my engine, and do any other work people want to do on there trucks.

Really! It's tempting - I'm sure it'd be warmer for me to do my idler arm, centerlink, ball joints and whatever else I need to do before my next outing. Of course I'd burn up my tires on the way down...
Doug, get on the trailrides list if you want - there are other folks from Joisy on there already.
