This is a branch off from the New England thread. If we are going to actually make this run we need to finalize some stuff and make some decisions.

Old Florida Rd is an unmaintained trail in Florida, MA. Excellent trail, very scenic, with good rock work and ledges. Here is my 4x4 club, www.jonfund.com , description of the trail:

Quote
Florida Road in North Western Mass is possible with a stocker, but only with a lot of bumping and banging. Even then, you will need a tug now and again. 31's and a traction device are a big help here. Boulder work and large rock obstacles make Florida Road a club favorite.

The wheeling is great if you like rocks, but you are going to want rocker protection or a disregard for your rockers. The recommendation of my club rings true here, especially for a IFS vehicle, more so for a long wheel base.

The trail used to be a loop, but there is an access issue with the water hole at the end of the trail. We will NOT be crossing it, we will be turning around and heading out the way we went in unless something new has come up with access to the end of the trail.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is the nearest camping. The camp ground is pretty nice. Hot showers, you can't beat that.

Here is the info for Savoy:
Central Shaft Rd., Savoy (Rte. 116)
413 663-8469

We need to decide if we are sharing a camp site, or if it every one is worrying about themselves. This is if people stay over of course. There was a limit on the amount of people per spot the last time I was there. Also the camp ground is DRY, alcohol free.

Friday for me depends on if I get off from work or not. So I will be staying, maybe friday, saturday, sunday. Sunday I am wheeling with my 4x4 cub on the trail. So that leaves friday and saturday for wheeling.

I don't think I can stay overnight, but still too soon to tell. The one thing I do know is that I'm picking up my 'new' '87 yota tomorra. Its got nice'n bald 35's but runs strong.

I read something bout that water hole being off limits. Sure does suck, looks pretty deep . I'm sure ther'll be more mud.

I'm iffy for Friday night but a definite "in" for Saturday wheeling/Saturday camping. I think sharing a site is the way to go. Doug, I'm sure you and I could find something burnable around the campsite

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

friday night wont work for me but sat-sun would most probably. The site being dry is fine with me, but then again im not of age yet. If all is well with my truck at that time then I do expect to be there. How much do camp sites run? and I think we should share as many spots as possible.

when i was up their last year i remember their being group sites/not sure i beleive ma. residents are $8.00 per night per site $10.00 for non residents. last i knew you could only have 2 vehicles per site but i'm sure they may make an acception if we tried to convince them we would be quiet as it is a family oriented campground. their is another state park with camping within a few miles of savoy fairly nice their also

Weld the rear... hmmmm that is a tough question lol.

If it isn't your daily drive I say go for it, it will probably make a whole new truck. Just make sure you do a good job and get ALL the slag and no loose weld in there. One little piece of weld is all it takes to crack a tooth off your ring and pinion. I guess the better question is it one of those c-clip d35's? (or was that 30), and do you have spare axles?

I got off from work that friday, so I will be there. I need to get my inspection done up in MA, and then I will drive over from there.

I will try to reserve one site tonight or tomorrow at work.

To give you guys a heads up, I would recommend that every one get at least one set of tie rods ends and what ever else your truck uses. I busted one tierod out there, and not having a spare ruined my weekend. It is cheap insurance trust me.

If you never use it, it isn't that much money wasted, but if you break a tierod on the trail, you will rather spend 15 minutes changing it on the trail, rather than a day searching for a replacement in south adams.

Sounds good man. I'll see if I get that time off to come down. I almost have my 4 runner running again after being down rebuilding the engine. Is it ok if I bring a buddy down? He's not on 4x4wire but has a built 96 nissan pickup.
