Mark,

It's mostly mountainous terrainà I mean, after all, we'll be in Mountain City!

From what IÆve personally seen of CrackerÆs Neck, I donÆt believe itÆs quite as muddy as you thinkà And as far as I know, the same holds true for Callalantee too. --- While IÆm sure thereÆs some mud (Heck, thereÆs ALWAYS some mud! ), thereÆs also an awful lot of rock-strewn hill-climbs.

Believe me; I know where youÆre coming from. --- Every time I submerge my Rodeo below the frame rails, I end-up replacing another alternatorà At last count, I think IÆm up to number seven (or eight! [Linked Image] )

IÆm not going to be diving mine into anything that I canÆt see the bottom ofà at least not without first doing a mighty thorough depth test, I can tell you that!

Maybe weÆll just let CapÆn Nemo be the Trail Leader, and then [i]HE can check the depth of all of the holes for us!

What-d-ya say, Doug? û Ya wanna put that Snorkel of yours to the test?

I've heard (no personal experience) that callalantee is mainly an ATV place. Lot of mudholes and a few climbs. Cracker's neck is supposed to have more in the way trails. Either way I'm in/

Aye

Smiley the only mud-holes I can tolerate any more are my Pinebarrens ones. They are usually just standing water, unlike mud from NE that sticks to your frame rails only to drop in your eyes every time you try to work on the truck.

I will bring my hip waders and you can check the holes for yourself.

You should get some one to design an alt relocation kit for your trucks, it is in a crappy spot!!!! Mine is all the way at the top of the engine and I still have killed one due to mud.

I have been at Callantee most of the morning.
Have some news to pass on.

I meet the camp host or "The Manager" today and discussed a possible event.

Her name is Minnie and she lives on the premises, kinda like Janet does.

She was very nice and was happy to see us come there this summer.

First thing you'll see when you go to the office:

[Linked Image]

It cost's $11 dollars a day for a trail pass.
This pass is good for Callantee and CrackersNeck

Camping is $15 a night with water/electric or $11 without.
The sites are limited to 4 people and 2 tents. The owner is
very serious about this.

After talking with Minnie about this she will be willing to rent these sights:
[Linked Image]
For $11 a night.......they have electric,no water though.
I will have to coordinate this with her personally.
They are the sites that follow the creek......between the vehicles backed in.
There are atleast 10 sites there.

There is 1 cabin availible:
[Linked Image]
It slleps 6 has washer/dryer,showers,stove,sink,ac etc.
$100 a night there is only 1 cabin though.

The bathhouse:
[Linked Image]
Has showers 3 for males,4 for females.

Most of the trails at Callante were"Paved"three months ago
but we have had alot of rain since then so they are showing age. There are about 125 miles of those trails.
"Welder" and "Little Tellico" have not and will not be touched, they are natural .
CrackersNeck has not been touched so it is in good shape
you all know what I mean by that.

This is not as luxurious as Uwharrie "camping" but you can still wash off dust at the end of the night.

Speaking of night-----The trails are open 24hrs a day.
There are no "quiet hours".

The grocery store is 2 miles away, the "cheerwine" store is 3.5 miles away----Hrs. 8am-12pm ,auto part store beside grocery store.Hardees/McDonalds/Burgerking about 2.5 miles away.

Here is their website
Callentee

Callantee is 2miles outside of the courthouse downtown MntCity.Crackersneck is about 8miles from Callantee---on the other side of MntCity.

Bansil

Any more questions just ask.

ANd think about portable shade, for the campsites.

I guess now would be a bad time to tell you that the Uber Shelter went to its great reward.
(The tarp sustained far too much wind damage this last go-round to justify packing it up, so I trashed it.)

I seriously doubt if I'll have the resources to replace it before we hit Callalantee/Cracker's Neck - so the biggest tarp that I'll have with me is only 12' x 20' --- But don't worry; I should have something suitably large again before October.

Hey Mark, I might think about this ride and I'm sure we could talk Chris (ravencr) into it. What are the trails like at Crackers Neck and where is it? Are the trails comparable to 4,5,6 and 8 at Tellico or harder?

I dunno...but heard about the place thats about it...lookin through the pics..looks like a winch-fest..

I'm not a fan of huge mudholes(learned my lesson already) but I'm still in.

I just did a mapquest and it's 433 miles for me, that may put me out, I'll just have to see.
