Bansil, The Turtle & I went to Callalantee today to check out the trails.
We drove about 15 miles of trails with a total of about 1500ft elevation change. According to the GPS.
The trails were a little narrow for my [color:"blue"]Goliath [/color] .
It reminded me of Uwharrie.
We didn't find the rock garden?
Butt...
Can You Say Hill Climbs?
Lots of long steep curvy hills.
Could be very interesting with a little water.

OK...
Look at the trees in the background.
The trail is flat and the trees are angled.

The only Problem I can see is getting lost.
The map they give you is worthless. North isn't even marked.
The trails are color coated if marked.
ATVs have made new trails that are not on the map. ECT...

I'm know Bansil will give a complete report.

My F-150's still on 31x10.5s it made it fine. But Iam lock up. As far as clearance on a trooper. You will have to ask the Isuzu guys.

As with most places. there will be places you can and can't go, 'round these mtns one usually worries about clearance on the sides and the top (I usually take out the hanging branches and leaning trees for the ppl behind )as well as the clearance underneath. As for wheeling stock height I would say bring it on. There is a ton of land up that way and it's a good place to try a variety of different difficulties as a proving grounds for your truck. Most of my first test runs take place up there to try out new stuff and if there is somthin that you don't wanna try then I'm sure there will be plenty of open seats for a ride, I'm always more than happy to let ppl ride. With that said there are others on here who know the place better than me so I'd let them chime in b/c even though I think you'll be aight my troop is a wee bit more than stock so I'm sure there are things up there that I have just rolled over not thinking twice about that could give some issues to a lower tummy trooper, but I still say come on we'd love for you to join...

Ok so they are tame we didn't take many pics because most of the climbs etc, were way to far to walk back and get pics.Welder and a few others would be better photo ops.

We did not do Welder or Little Tellico.I know about them and we were reconning the rest of the area.

We found several climbs-#7 that is a tighter uphill battle on football to bowling ball size rocks,it is maybe 1/2mile up with several cutbacks.

One reason we didn't do welder today was because there was 1 or 2 broken jeeps on it.1 was a driveshaft not sure about the other.

All these trails we did today would be best done going up them.

There are at least 100 trails off each trail,or so it seem'd.

Most of what we did today was kinda mellow, there are places to destroy oops.......test your truck.
We mainly looked for more mellow trails today

**************************************************

A few words of wisdom:
If you like your shiney paint, you do not want to wheel here
If you have lights on top of your truck,or on the side of a roof rack..........you won't when you leave here
cooling and brakes need to work
and,what else.........oh yeah
If your don't like scratches on or thru your paint then you might want to invest in alot of wax and a case of PAM Cooking spray

If it rains all the trails will go from easy to almost impossible.........imagine Dutchjohn X 10 in lenght and alot steeper.

If after playing on the trails and doing welder,if people want to play harder we can drive about 1/2 hour thru town
and play at crackersneck on the rockgarden.

Bansil

We will be going back one day next weekend, probably Sat Or Sun to check out some more trails and probably run welderand go to the rock garden.

The maps are useless-mostly.......and there is a mud/water pit to challenge the biggest folks, and maybe win a free trail pass.

The manager said she will work out a deal so we can get a break on the trail pass fees.

C-ya later with more info

Hey Doug û I see that you managed to revive the hamster that spins your hard drive!

Seriously, thanks for the update, Bro

As I recall, Patrick Wang used that trick to keep MUD off of his truck û IÆm not sure how well it would work for scratches. --- But either way, the question I asked him still stands: ôWhat the heck do you use to get the PAM to come off?ö

Personally, the prospect of acquiring a little more æcustom pin stripingÆ doesnÆt bother meà However, IÆm sure there are a few folks who appreciate the warning.

As for loosing your roof-mounted lights while driving through dense overhanging brushà It happened to me once û and I just never bothered to replace them.

By all means, go ahead and bring that Trooper of yours to Callalantee!

From what Doug (Bansil) told me on the phone tonight, there are probably close to 100 miles of trails that you wouldn't have any real trouble with at all. --- Besides, youÆll probably be amazed at what a Trooper on 31s can do û and hey, if you do run into any trouble, there will be plenty of help available to get you going again. --- And of course, like Scott (scooter36863) said, if at some point during the weekend you decide youÆd rather not run yours, you can always grab a seat in someone elseÆs rig and ride along!

We will have plenty of tools among us, so donÆt worry quite so much about thatà but I would suggest that you get yourself a pair of trail-spare Tie Rods, just in case. --- Ya never know, right?

Cheers!

Youll be surprised what your truck can do.......Trust me.

I wish i was going. I cant wait to be back at Uwharrie in the fall. Somewhere i am more familiar with. Still, things might work out for me to come up there to tennessee. I might stand a chance of coming if i get a break at work (can ya believe it? my first time having to say "i cant come cause of WORK!!!") Only time will tell...

Being only 60 miles away it's a good bet Rob and I will make this. From looking at some of the pics I may even talk him into taking the Trooper (unless it looks like rain, then we'll see) Thanks to my buddy Dallas the RS may even have a new addition by then!

My brother also lives in Boone so maybe he'll join us with either his Jeep or riding.

Oh and did I skip over how much trail fees were? I'm reading they are a little high, like Paragon high?

Jessica,

Sorry for the delay...
I've just updated the First Post with all of the details

And BTW, I've searched, but I just can't seem to find that photo - I'll keep trying!
