Yeah. We got to get that going. Hopefully the rain will go away for a while. And yes, there is a reason my truck has 2 huge tanks and 2 jerry cans. But, being diesel, it's not that bad. Definetly not what people think. My truck gets better mileage than an H2. Not that that says much. But I get about 12-13mpg. On last years trip to colorado, I was going over 400 miles between fills.

Simply put, I hate the H2, think they are the dumbest thing ever drawn up. But I do like H1's. Man 13 mpg's was what I was getting on my way home when my clutch crapped out, and mins a 4 banger haha.
But I dont want to stray too far off topic here.
Is there a date yet, or even a month in which we can expect this trip, I'm already having to take a lot of time off this summer so I have to pick and choose my battles.

Rose Mountain is a Mountain in NH that a lot of people go to, I sadly missed the last trip do to a wedding. We're in the process of planning....kinda another one.
Nick not the hardest though. There is a trail called Wynn that I have yet to do but I have heard is a lot harder. Anyways, where about in maine is this trek going to happen? You said northern but does that mean up near Nova scotia or over near new hampshire?

Its up near Canada... I got some pretty bummed news though. Turns out in the last year or so its become pretty popular and for almost the whole way you can drive a Subaru to it now.. Means, not much wheeling and quite a bit of hiking/camping.

that sucks. I dont know how much fun doing a long trip like that with a built truck and nothign to use it on would be. The scenery would probably be really nice though.

Don't know if any of you guys have ever been up there, so I don't know if you know what the roads are like first hand or not. But I grew up and lived in central maine up until a few years ago(millinocket area), and the majority of woods roads around there are quite nice, as you said you could take a car on some of them. To get any decent off-roading, from what I am used to, you need to find old skidder twitch trails that go off of the dirt roads. Sometimes these twitch trails can be quite steep, and quite rocky as well, some times with mud on the way as well.
But you are right, a lot of the scenery would be great, especially if you went in the fall around middle of september to middle of october. I have never been wheelin' in far northern maine, so I can't say for sure what it is like. But there are hundreds of roads up there though, and some incredible fishing. Hope this has been of some help.

Just read that arcticle on the "trek of the trains", sounds really cool. I had never heard about those trains before. Wish I still lived back there, I would love to go with you guys. If you do decide to go, have fun!

We were there over Fathers Day weekend and Arlene had just passed throuh and dumped a ton of rain. The best place to go into the North Maine Woods is at the 20 Mile Check Point. There is gas and diesel in the woods at a couple of the organized campsites but as you would expect it is kinda pricey and some are cash only. There are plenty of free campsites that you can camp at all through the woods and organized campgrounds with a small store ,showers, restrooms , the whole nine yards. http://seboomookwildernesscampground.com/page1.htm The only thing that you really need to know about at this time of year is the flying insects. Insect repellant is an absolute must , if you don't have it they will pick you up and carry you away. It is enough to drive you completely insane. Another site that can help is this one , it gives you fee's and other info, http://www.northmainewoods.org/
