Roll Me Over
Yea, thats Kodiak rock at the top of Rocky Mount, not really an area known for rollovers. My bet is, this happened as a result of pushing a line that wasn't going to happen. The right side of that rock (facing uphill) is about 4-5' dead vertical, bump a tire up against that and its definitely not climbing. as you go left on the rock, things slope off. My guess is, he had his right rear lined up right against this impossible-to-climb wall, kept working the line, and with that tire not going anyway, it just rotated the front end up and over.

needless to say, rollovers at uwharrie aren't common, its something you really gotta work for!

I was kind of surprised that there werenÆt more photos.

I know that if one of us rolled our rig û as soon as it was established that everyone was OK û someone would be right there, clicking the shutter about as fast as their camera allowed, capturing everything for posterity.

Yep - I only know of it ever happening once to one of us - and for the record, [* Name Omitted *] was posing his Amigo on a rock, and was outside of the vehicle when it flopped over on it's side.

Here are more pictures of that jeep. Carnage!

Scroll down - they are towards the bottom.

It didn't happen on Kodiak Rock. It looks like it was on Daniel after the switchback? On the 180 left turn that you have to pull up and back down and go forward again. Don't know. I could be and probably am wrong.

I wasnÆt going to say anything at firstà I figured IÆd just let it goà
But after reading this OTHER thread over at NC4x4, I simply canÆt keep my opinion to myself on this oneà

The owner of that Jeep may very well be a respected member of his segment of the 4-wheeling community, and perhaps heÆs even liked and respected by everyone who knows himà However, if driving up onto live standing trees, and going significantly past the designated trail markers are typical examples of his æTread Lightly!Æ trail etiquette û based on what I see in those photos, IÆm having a pretty hard time mustering-up any sympathy for his roll-over.

I call FOUL!

good call, I guess I assumed the picts Smiley posted were a series. If you're right about the spot, I'm even more bewildered why he flipped there!

I'm in total agreement with you Smiley about the tread lightly approach. I also hope they managed to clean up all the fluids that thing pucked all over the trail, but based on the previous behavior, I'm not entirely sure.

Body Damage is Cool
I think, even though it has already been said, i should re-itterate this a little more.

What you see here, with the flipped heep and all, is a VERY uncommon occurence in uwharrie. Ive never seen anybody flip there. Heck, the only real carnage ive seen there is some body damage and busted lights (on the same tree on rocky mount, chris, hows about we take that tree out this time ....just kidding) and a failed CV. Like everyone has already said, that guy flipped, probably because he deserved it. He was probably using too much of the stupid peddal, and thus, consequences. We are a very responsible group, and dont allow drinking on the trail.

Street tires will be fine. Someone is always willing to give a tow. And we have enough Isuzu Expertise there, that in the event you do break something, all it will take is a run to the local Nappa for parts. (Whom we found out, with a little persuasion from Roy, DOES NOT carry newer Amigo CV joints )

Come on out. Youll have great time.

Jordan, I don't know if i'd go so far as to say the driver deserved the flop or it was due to alcohol. I do think it was irresponsible of him to go off a designated trail to play on a rock, but I'm sure now he regrets that decision.

I also don't know if I agree about your claim there isn't much breakage at Uwharrie. I've seen more breakage at Uwharrie in a day than we did the entire week we were in Moab. With this hobby, it's the risk you take. If you don't want to break, don't take the rig out should be the statement we make to everyone thinking about coming to Uwharrie. Yes, through driving styles and trail choice we can limit that, but on that trail there are a lot of factors we can't control.

I agree with your point though that flops are rare at Uwharrie, but they definately do happen. I've seen 2 and have heard about a dozen more. I think Dave Chang can even claim they happen on flat ground!

(Jessica on Rob's name)

The story I heard Dave tell had nothing to do with a rock so I didn't know that's who you were talking about! Sorry!
