I must say that was fun as HELL! I was in there when that wonderful idea was happening, and it was a blast. I would have to say that Rubo does not mind body damage. It really looked better than it felt from inside the truck, and we made it alot father up that climb than I thought and I think alot of people thought. I mean right there at the top of the second try I thought we were gonna make it. JOE>
Oh yeah and thanks to Andre and JoeD, as well as Sasha for letting my wife and I hitch a ride.

Was Justin your brother? I enjoyed having him along for the saturday night run, and i hope he can get into off roading (if not in Isuzu's, at least in the sport!) later on. -J

>>> >>> >>> ATTENTION! <<< <<< <<< It has just been brought to my attention ( actually from two distinctly different sources) that the ôRuboÆconö bypass (the deep ditch off to the side of the s-curve/ledge on Daniel) was an illegal use of the trail systemà I quote verbatim from a PM that I received on another forum: Smiley, Please mention to your friends that just because someone else is using a "bypass" does not make it legal. Someone who knew the terrain should have been riding with Robo. People read this forum to point out illegal offroad activity to the USFS, so your thread got removed. IF you want to post it up again, and leave out the references to illegal bypasses, and keep images of the same out of the post, then you are welcome to repost. I know it is hard to know where to go sometimes, but that one was damned obvious. That "bypass" was just bushes and crap two years ago, and the ATVers cut it because they could not hack the ledge.
(signature removed) I want to assure anyone and everyone that has viewed our photos that we honestly had no idea that it was an illegal bypass! --- If we had known, we NEVER would have let anyone use it, period. Our group has earned a reputation for obeying the rules, mainly because we respect the privilege of having somewhere to go 4-wheelingà Under no circumstances, whatsoever, would any of us ever knowingly disobey ANY of the rules. As such - despite the fact that the section was not marked or barricaded as a æno-goÆ - I have absolutely no intention of attempting to defend the transgressionà Instead, I am going to remove the photos in-question from this postà Additionally (as soon as I figure out how), IÆm going to do the same with the originals that are in my photo album. The fact that we were unaware that the bypass was an illegal use of the trail IS NOT a good enough excuse to leave the photos up and available for public viewingà Doing so would probably only encourage others to follow our bad example; thus further compounding the problem of illegal trail usage. I want to take this opportunity to apologize wholeheartedly on behalf of our entire trail-group that day (whether they were involved or not), and offer the strictest assurance that it will NEVER happen againà In the future, if there is ever even the slightest doubt about a given section of trail, bypass, etc., we will err on the side of caution and avoid treading on it completely. As I said, it is a privilege for us to have somewhere to go 4-wheeling û and none of us wants to do ANYTHING that would jeopardize that privilege in any way, shape, or form. Cheers! Smiley

Smiley, fwiw, it was not 'damned obvious' to any of us Uwharrie veterans that the bypass was illegal. And as you said, nobody would have let Rubo do it if we had known. Now, what you've all been waiting for, the carnage report: Cracked my rear diff cover. Dun Dun Dunnnnnn dundundundun Hmmm. No broken shards. Lockright teeth are all intact. The springs and pins appear to all be intact. Ring and pinion are in good shape. I went ahead and jacked it up. Spun the driverside tire, lockright ratcheted. Spun the passenger side, nothing. All signs point to a broken axleshaft. Did manage to crack this carrier bearing, don't know if that has to do with the broken shaft, I would guess so. Heres my mangled leaf springs. They were worse, they are flattened back out a bit now.
