no snow, but honestly...when is everybody gonna come WAY down south and come to River Rock ORV park ( www.riverrock.com) here in Georgia? Paragon is way too far away, as is west virginia, and George Washington NP. Tellico is too harcore for me. JoeD and Andre can testify as to how gnarly riverrock can be. No takers? Didnt think so... -J

You know what, guys? I think it's about time for south to head north (instead of the usual north heading south).
I second Chris on Paragon. Never been there, but AFAIK it has trails for any "size" vehicle. Starting from stock & ending up with trails that would be challanging even for RobG's monster.
Also if we decid on it i could go up there fiew weeks in advance & check it out first hand.

Not that this really pertains to the winter run, but I did a big dogs event this year in GOre VA Which is in northern VA and I have to say that it has trials for every caliper or truck. I will be back next year for at least one event and MAybe more. They only run 4 events up there a year and they put on a real good show. here is the link to there site no winter runs but there is mulitple ones next year that we can get in on if we can gather a group of people to go. If not I will represent Big Dogs Off Road

The forest roads near where Smiley lives have potential, but if there is no snow they may not be a challenge. Are there other locations in WV that are open in winter? Paragon is open all year and they have campsites that are also open year-round, not to mention hotels. Callantee by Doug would be good because there is a variety of trails, including easier ones just in case the conditions are very bad. That's what's needed - challenging trails in case there is no snow or ice, and easy trails that become very challenging in case there is snow and ice.

Joe Darlington and I have discussed the possibility of going to Paragon this winter. One thing to consider is they have an entry fee of $35 a day, with a small discount for multiple day passes. Also the park closes at 3 or 4. No night wheelin. I would like to go though, they got some real interesting trails.

(A) $35 a day??? -- That's more than an entire yearÆs worth of 4-wheeling in Uwharrie! (B) With a 3 or 4PM park closure, knowing this group, whatÆs that add up to? -û About one trail-run a day? -û OK, maybe two (assuming that we get an ôearlyö start ) I'm just sayin'

Yeah its definately one run a day. Its also more organized than what we are used to. The park opens at 9 or 10, and everyone has to go through a quick tech inspection. Then you go out in groups. IIRC, each group must have either a paragon trail guide, or a member who has watched their safety video/class. You eat lunch on the trail, and if you are not out when the park closes, they start fining you by the hour.
There's another park near Paragon called Rausch creek, haven't heard the details about it though.
