...and if you are not out when the park closes, they start fining you by the hour.

If it turns out to be Paragon... Dan's not invited! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, that sound pretty strict... a simple little late afternoon trail-breakage could bankrupt us! --- Personally, I'd prefer a far more relaxed, laid-back environment myself - ideally, somewhere without entry fees, a safety video, or trail guides.

-- it would cost less
-- we're already a very safe and reasonably well-prepared group
-- we're not a bunch of doe-eyed newbies that can't read a map

Again - just sayin' <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
So what's the consensus, guys? Are we gonna have a winter Isuzu event?

I truly don't want my desire to have a 'local-to-me' winter run preventing others from getting together somewhere else for a winter gathering - so here's what I'm thinking...

From this point on, I'll keep my nose (and big mouth <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> ) out of any further planning - and just keep my fingers crossed that I'll be able to attend whatever event comes as a result...

But for those that might be interested, I'll be sure to post a notice as soon as we have some serious snow in the forecast here in Southern WV/Southwest VA - and we'll see what happens from there.

Let's keep asking around for a good location for the next few weeks and make a decision in November. We haven't heard from Doug and Callantee yet. I need to check out the place Bryan mentioned in Gore, VA. Let's see what else turns up.

I am not gonna be able to make it to a winter Isuzu Event. With the holidays coming up, i am gonna be too strapped for cash as it is, without adding a wheeling trip in there too.

Good thing you got 2 uber shelters, right smiley? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

I will more than likely be at the spring event, nonetheless.

I know what I just said and all, BUT... here's what Doug said earlier...

A jan/feb run sounds good, snow around here can be spotty,we might have 70* and sun or 12+ snow.

And as far as I know, Callalantee is open year-round <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I kinda overlooked Doug's post (Bansil), probably because it was so short <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> I'm used longer posts from him <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Seriously, I've learned a lot from your posts, Doug.

So, is Callantee open all winter? Is the campground open or some other accommodations nearby? Is there a good location in West Virginia that would have a greater chance of snow? I would really like to do some snow wheeling. The park service in Virginia pretty much gates everything closed after the main hunting season is over.

Thanks,
Pete

I for one would like to get back in the habbit so a winter run would be great. January/February works much better than December.

I live about 2.5 hours from Paragon in Westminster, Maryland, so if someone needs to break up thier drive or fix something--just let me know.

What the heck, by January I might have my old tires replaced...

Sincerely,

Kevin

I'm heading off for Africa for a couple of weeks (climbing Kilimanjaro and teaching in Arusha, Tanzania). Let's make a decision on this before the end of November.

As far as the æwhereÆ goes û what Doug said about Mountain City is just as true hereà

On any given Monday, they might be forecasting a foot of snow for Friday - only to have Friday roll around, and it be 65* or better. --- On the other hand, they might give a forecast for...

Quote
a ælight dustingÆ tonight û followed by æclear and sunny, with warmer temperaturesÆ over the next two days

...which in reality turns out to be a three-day veritable whiteout, with a total accumulation of 30+ inches of heavy/wet snow.

You just never know.

No matter where or when this get-together takes place - I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
