If the group is small, how about camping on top of Rabun Bald? The "road" to the approach trail is a workout all by itself, and the 1/4 mile approach to the peak will make you sleep sound...

Or a downhill walk to Three Forks at the head of the West Chattooga off overflow road (1st north off Warwoman Rd going toward clayton). Or across the Chattooga from Burrels Ford campground is a good flat site about 200yds in.

Or how 'bout a leg workout and walk the Beech Creek loop around little Scaly Mtn west off Standing Indian ridge. 12mi and 2000' elevation change. Waterfalls. Chimney rock. Old "stamp" site in hanging valley. Scaly Mtn. corundum mine in the cliff face. End of Tallulah/Tate city road in NC.

I think old Burrels Ford road is still kind of there, but I don't think Hicking Cr is open.

Alternate is neat places without much wheeling. The Ball Crk road/Cherokee Cave/Picken's Nose/Albert Mtn fire tower and camp in the So. Nantahala Wilderness campground is another poss.

If we stay around Warwoman, MarkG might be able to make it and still stay in fire dept radio range.
