He's the fire squad Lt. He's always on call...
Y'all pick one. I'm open to anything.
Yup, I think I'm going to Uw, unless it's around 9-23. Kate is getting married that day, and I get to cry....

Okay, how about a long ride through Albert Mountain and Wayah Bald on mostly forest roads... Connect the dots Camp where ever. Edit: I just opened the KML (if you have Google Earth installed, click the KML option from the Google Map I created) and noticed a really long and winding Forest midway between points 7 & 8. Might be worth checking out and perhaps we could find a place to camp along there.

Hey Wareagle, You're probably looking at 2.5-3 hours from Knoxville depending on where we meet. Glad to have more folks going <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I'm trying to figure out a good camping backup location around the Wayah Bald/Albert Mtn. area, in the event we don't find a place off the road. Appletree Group camp (if our group gets large enough) and Hurricane Primitive may work: http://ncnatural.com/NCUSFS/Nantahala/nantfac.htmlAnyway, that's last resort stuff...I'm overplanning the hell out of this gravel road drive.

The diesel Montero is getting there but won't be ready for this run. I'm up for a fall color trip for late September/early october? (or whenever the leaves are supposed to start changing) I should have the oil burner running well enough for a light ride by then.

Ah, great to hear that Powell. I should be up for another jaunt around then and I look forward to the smell of Wesson.

Cherokee Cave (a big rock overhang) is near the start - go up ball creek rd, and take the first open left, and go se to Wallace Gap (first place you can look downhill on both sides of the road, and go around to the s face of the hill to the se from the gap along a faint trail. About 30min walk max.
The Waslick Poplar (unfortunately now dead) is the largest poplar east of the Miss. R., and worth the walk down to it, just s of us64 in the So Nant. wilderness. Good camp ground in the wilderness, too, plus a LOT of primitive sites. I don't think camping will be a problem...
I think you have Wayah and Albert mtns. right.
How about meeting up in Otto or Franklin, NC?
Powell, you want to come up and ride with me? I'm on the way from your place...
Edit: and Powell's truck smells like fried chicken at idle...

At the request of my friend Chuck, I thought I would post another option for our drive. Eddy or MarkG, are you familiar with these roads... Basically a long loop beginning at Warwoman Rd and Earls Ford, cross the Chattoga into S.C., through Mountain Rest to Long Bottom Ford/Low Water Bridge, backtrack to 107 and turn onto Burrells Ford Rd. Cross the Chattooga to Hicking Trl>Horse Cove Rd>Burrells Ford>28 to Pine Mountain/WarwomanRd. Option2 Thoughts? I'm good with either...

Driven all of that. Ball Creek/Albert Mtn/So. Nantahala/Wayah bald has more exiting stuff. Warwoman/warwoman has slightly better chance of rougher roads, esp horse cove/old burrels ford rd.
