I have this 1987 Raider with a beautiful steering wheel. I would like to put it on my 1989 Mitsubishi Montero that has a tape wrapped steering wheel.
I do not know how to remove the Pad on the 1987 Raider. I can see how to remove the larger pad on the 1989 Montero. The Pad on the 1987 Raider steering wheel is a rather small affair with 6 sides, and wheel has 2 little horn buttons.
Does anyone know how to safely remove the center pad to gain access to the main bolt?

There are 4 plastic tabs that hold the center cover in place, in these approximate positions: Use a thin, plain screwdriver from behind the center cover and feel around for the clips. They are a 'push to release' type. Be ginger and use care, you'll get it. Good luck!!

Thanks rxinhed!
I had no idea the pad was retained that way, I'm sure glad you knew. I was getting ready to rip off the pad, assuming it was retained like the 1989 (around the edge).

Thanks for all your help on this rxinhed. I actually took off the clamshell that is around the steering shaft just behind the steering wheel, unfortunately there aren't any screws or clips on the back of this pad at all. Did that just now. Thanks for the photo, that is exactly the steering wheel I am working with, thanks also for trying to help. Am I looking in the right place on the outside reverse of the steering wheel? Or perhaps you meant at the pad junction where the pad meets the steering wheel, I haven't looked there so far. It's starting to rain here in Manitou Springs so I probably won't do any more today on this.

Almost 100?F here today. There are no screws. Go between the pad and the steering wheel and hunt without much force.
