I just did a transmission flush on my 97 montero sr. Fluid looked terrible but I've never had a problem with the transmission.

The car has 170k miles on it, is my daily driver ( 6 miles one way to work) and my off roader ( maybe once a month with serious trails)

I want to have bigger tires for off roading but dont want to strain the transmission and differentials unnecessarily, or kill my gas milage. so am considering getting a set that i put on for just off roading, but could still drive on the road 100 miles to my off road destinations. How big of a tire can one fit with out serious modifications?

Im open to body and suspension lifts if they are plug and play. I want to do the ome suspension upgrade, but i think it only adds and inch if you have an ls, not a rs. it also seems that a 1-2inch body lifts can be performed with no real modifications as well.

it seems like an old man emu upgrade, and 1inch body lift will fit 38's but im not positive. I saw on this form someone with 40's but not sure what lift was required. If im going to have separate tires i want them to be bigger than 35's but dont want to set my cars drive train up for a short life.
