Need a Spot

I recently got an 02 Trooper for a song and dance. It needs a new engine since the current engine threw a rod. I'm not thrilled with the idea of dumping another 3.5L gas engine since I've read its a pretty horrible engine. I would love to put a diesel engine in there but I've never done a diesel swap before. I was hoping that I could get a few pointers on converting from gas to diesel, specifically on which engine to put in. My major considerations are availability of parts, ease of installation and reliability of any modifications or alterations made to the drive train to make the engine swap fit/function. I'm also open to the idea of putting a north-star v8 or other reliable gas engine in there if it will be an easy connection to the existing drive/power train.
