As far as I know from my research, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong 'cause I want to know the definitive answer to this, too, the answer is no. The older systems were made up of a ECM (engine control module) and a TCU/TCM (transmission control unit/module) with a buss line between the two. OBD didn't extend to the TCU.
