Day 1 with the engine: Threw out my back loading the engine parts, had to leave everything in the bed of the truck overnight. Luckily we're in the desert.
Day 2 so far: Picked up a shop crane and engine stand from Harbor Freight. Assembled, then hoisted the partially-assembled block out of the truck bed. As I am going through things, I notice more missing parts. The J/Y is already on the hunt for a box, since the obvious missing timing set (new, shrink wrapped on card) was missing. I now realize there is no oil pickup, no head bolts (allegedly came with new bolts), no half-moon seal, no counter balance shaft cover, and other minor assorted missing items. There are also only 2 bolts that thread into the back of the block, so I'll have to get those off of my Montero when the time comes to swap. This also means I need to run to ACE hardware to get some M10x1.25x75mm bolts to mount the engine on the stand (I already swung by Lowe's on the way home from Harbor Freight and they didn't have any in stock).
I'll be headed back to the JY after I hit ACE to see if they found the rest of the stuff. If so, my 73 Buick is coming out of the garage and headed to my RV storage space (40' long, the Buick is 17.xx and my RV is 20.xx in length, so thy will fit on the one rented space) in order to free up the room in the garage for me to get down to work on this block. I'll also pay my driver $40 to pull the Montero up here so I can put it in the garage where the Buick currently sits. Since the Montero is 4 feet shorter than the Buick, I should have ample room to work when backed into the same space.
Off to make lunch, then get going again!
