Dealing with a no start issue with my 1995 Montero SR. Debating on buying a scan tool but not sure what to get.

Have read Monteros are ODB II compliant starting 94/95 but searches for a scanner point me to MUT III scanner.

Anyone have any knowledge on what I should purchase?

Kind regards,
~ Jon

Body Damage is Cool
My understanding is that 95 is a split year for the OBD1 & OBD2 systems. Have you checked the connector? I believe they are different. And if'n you have an OBD1 style, toucan use an analog ohmmeter.

If I remember correctly, it has an OBD 2 connector.

But seems like I've tried to hook a scanner up to it without success.

Correct, the 95s I have looked at/owned, the OBD-II port is in place but is not fully functional. For MUT, you need both the tool itself as well as the cable to power it. An OBD scanner won't help on anything Montero older than a 96.

Just for kicks, a no-cost quick check of the ECU can tell you if that's a factor or not. I fought my 95SR for a l-o-n-g time before I opened mine up and saw the sad capacitors had bled out. Procured another one from the AZ Crew and it hasn't looked back. Just in case, it's on the passenger side, under the glove box area and is pretty easy to get to and remove/replace.

Thanks for the suggest. I grabbed a spare ECU and fuel filter from storage this weekend. Will swap fuel filter and verify if fuel pump is pushing fuel. If no change after that will swap ECU ..... finger crossed

To clarify, the '95 Mitsubishi's are OBD 1.5 as are a number of other cars in the world and can not be read with OBD2 scanners.
