I was just wondering what kind of metal and how thick people have used to make a roof rack out of. Also wondering how much weigth the stock holes in the roof would be able to hold?

if you truly are interested in making one yourself, i can hook you up w/ a guys email (i believe he is in or around san diego) that made his own rack for a 91 troop, from used metal parts for all around $111 i believe. He sent me pics and commentary thru snail mail b/c his website was down. Really cool guy, he uses his to carry wood and gear n stuff on trips he takes south of him.

I'm the one who sent the photos of my rack. I'm guilty. You can build your own rack for $100 or less and it is easy. Will be glad to put in my $.02 for anyone who needs it. I'm in San Diego (Chula Vista). No it's a white '91 trooper with a black rack.

Give me a yell,

See you out there,
Dave

91 Trooper. Mostly stock. Takes me where I want to go and brings me home when I'm done playing.

all you need to do is go to home depot and buy door stop brackets. they are thick silver metal. cut them in half down the center, then drill your holes to match the ones in the roof. get a big hammer and bend them into the angle to match the roof. buy 56" thule bars on ebay for 25.00 and you're done. total investment of less than 50.00. email me for pics

Hey does anyone have another E-mail or Phone # for Chula Vista Dave I PM'd and E-mailed him no response. I am in his nieghborhood so I could stalk the streets and look for a white trooper with a black Rack but I think a good e-mail address would do. Or if you (Richard) can scan pictures you have and E-mail them that might help. Well lets see what happens.
