My Dad is selling his Isuzu I-mark coupe and I've convinced him to give me the blue Recaro seats.

I'm not sure if this would be a direct no-mods transplant since these are both Isuzus.

If I do need to swap rails, how is this done? Anyone ever do a seat upgrade on a 1st gen?

Is there welding involved?

There is an entire line of Trooper (Bighorn) that came with Recaro seats as standard trim, from 1st gen. right through to the present model. They are the 'Irmscher' line. There should be seat brackets available for most (not all) Recaro setas that will match the hole pattern in the Troopers, therefore...if you could find a 1st gen. that had the seats in a junkyard. Old vehicles sent out of Japan lose the seats pretty quickly, but the brackets are usually left there.

I don't know why, but I have it recorded here in my notes that '81 to '84 Bighorns with Recaro seats use the baseframe bracket no. 84.051.0, on both the left and right side.

Probably not the answer you wanted...

Hey thanks man. I could use all the info I could get. I also need to know if it would be wise to remove the rails off my existing stock seats and retrofit them onto the recaros. Would it be legal or safe? The chances of finding a correct bracket for a car this old would be pretty slim especially in Manila.

There are a lot more 2nd and 3rd gens here than 1st gens since Isuzu closed its operations here in the mid 80's and resumed in the early 90's

...for the longest time, I had two 'spare' vehicles sitting in the yard...both fitted with the Recaro seats...both (later) 1st gens.

Murphy's Law has it that you never need them when you have them...and that you do when you don't. Sorry, I'm all outta spares, now. Those vehicles have (most likely) been reborn, as irons or washing-machines...the wheel of recycled life...

You can always fab. something to your need, or have a shop do it for you. With seat brackets, I'd probably tend to over-fab...since those seats hold you in the vehicle in life-threatening emergency situations....
